Toshiba Satellite A135-S4677 Notebook
Intel Pentium Dual-Core Processor T2080, 1.73GHz, 1GB RAM, 80GB Hard Drive, 15.4-inch WXGA TFT Display, 8X DVD+/-RW Drive, Windows Vista Home Premium. $599 (sale)

I really wanted to spend less than $500 b/c my last laptop was $1200 and the motherboard went out on me. I can’t bring myself to pay a lot of money for a laptop again. But I don’t like cheap processors and I don’t trust refurbished unless it’s from the manufacturer! This one was still cheaper than most refurbished.

My needs are very basic. Web surfing, music downloads, word processing. I don’t do gaming or anything.

Whatdyathink? (I hope it doesn’t suck b/c I bought it already :)

How does one go about getting another gig of RAM? I am SO NOT technically savvy.

While I don’t have this laptop – here is what I read about it:

Great notebook once you get rid of the bloatware (trial versions of software).

I bought this to replace a 2 year old notebook (not a Toshiba) that was having problems. This little beauty cost half as much and is a much better notebook. Technology marches on. While this notebook was ready to go right out of the box (in fact, some of the included software is very nice and easy to use – Toshiba Disc Creator, Ulead DVD Movie Factory, etc.), I took a few minutes to uninstall the bloatware and replaced the 2 X 512MB RAM with 2 X 1GB of RAM. FWIW, RAM replacement is easy to do, both sticks are readily accessable underneath a panel on the bottom – remove two screws and pry the panel up gently.

Now I have a very nice and fast notebook. Though I am making peace with Vista, I really would prefer to be using XP. Toshiba doesn’t support XP for the A135-S4677, a shame.

A pleasant surprise – the media card reader supports SDHC.

If you are considering this the A135-S4677, go ahead and buy. This is a very solid and functional notebook for the price.

I would go for 2 gig of ram if you are going to have windows vista..If you bought it then what I think isn’t relevant.
What you have should meet your needs..

Its a good computer but i think it should be about $499.99 instead. I own a shop and I sell laptops with about the same specs but about 100 cheaper. I say shop around, I think you can get a better price. Go some where like http://www.shopping.com shopping.yahoo.com or http://www.froogle.com to compare prices.

Also if you get Vista get at least 2gb RAM because there are alot of problems with it and the more RAM the better.

for simple things it is good, but i wouldn’t buy it. Processor is not very fast and ram small but for word procesing it is ok. Hard drive a bit small but u can always get extarnal one, screen is probably the best part in that laptop, dvd drive very slow and of course system crap. As for u i think it is perfect

well windows vista needs at least 1 gb of ram to run at its minimun, but if you are not using it for gsming i guess its ok, and besides the processor, well its still ok, its like the averge speed,

    good luck

Honostly, dell.com has better deals, core 2 duo (the best processor) and the option to get windows xp instead of vista for pretty much the same price. Here are some examples:

How are you going to connect to the Web – if DSL or CABLE, you can get a good refurbished laptop for about $300.
    *
I would get windows XP professional and avoid VISTA.
2G with vista is good advice.
