I am in the Market for a new computer. I would use it mostly for downloading pics, music, and videos, surfing the internet and business. I don’t need fancy graphics or gaming stuff. Just a computer that is decently fast with a good amount of memory. My budget is $700 or less.I found one that seems to be a great deal through staples. It is an Inspiron 1545, it has an Intel Pentium dual-core T-3400 processor, 4 gb of installed memory, 250 GB of hard drive and a 15.6 inch screen for $550, here is the link

I don’t know much about computers but this seems cheap compared to other computers I have researched. My question is does this seem like a god deal? I will also need a good anti virus program and I hear avast and avg are good free programs to use, but do they really work, or would I be better off shelling out the extra 50-100 bucks for a better paid program?
sorry this is the correct link :

There’s a lot of good places to get computers. Shop around. & online thru Yahoo & others places you can enter a model number & they’ll show you the best prices.

I like Tiger Direct for computers. Great service. Never had a problem with them & great prices.

Neither AVG or avast are free. You have to pay for them both. SCANNING your computer with them is free. I think when you are uninstalling AVG, though, it will give the software to you for free if you complete another offer from a company. Download SUPERAntiSpyware free edition and Clamwin for free security

Seems like a good computer, indeed. It will be good until you want fancy graphics and gaming.

The spec is good for the price but this is not a rugged product and the warranty is limited. As the build on an Inspiron is plastic and relatively flimsy, the back of the screen is prone to flex and cause damage. Hence, I’d steer clear of this model unless you intend to use it primarily at home and not carry it round a lot, or you’re prepared to fork out another $270 for the 2 year extended cover. If you’re going to be on the road a lot, try and get something with a magnesium alloy case instead.

AVG free editon is just as effective as some other products you might buy, as long as you don’t want lots of customisable features. You get a basic daily scan, some spyware protection and real time virus detection. It also works with Microsoft Office and scans emails and word documents as they open.
