Toshiba Satellite A135-S4677 Notebook
Intel Pentium Dual-Core Processor T2080, 1.73GHz, 1GB RAM, 80GB Hard Drive, 15.4-inch WXGA TFT Display, 8X DVD+/-RW Drive, Windows Vista Home Premium. $599 (sale)
I really wanted to spend less than $500 b/c my last laptop was $1200 and the motherboard went out on me. I can’t bring myself to pay a lot of money for a laptop again. But I don’t like cheap processors and I don’t trust refurbished unless it’s from the manufacturer! This one was still cheaper than most refurbished.
My needs are very basic. Web surfing, music downloads, word processing. I don’t do gaming or anything.
Whatdyathink? (I hope it doesn’t suck b/c I bought it already

How does one go about getting another gig of RAM? I am SO NOT technically savvy.
While I don’t have this laptop – here is what I read about it:
Great notebook once you get rid of the bloatware (trial versions of software).
I bought this to replace a 2 year old notebook (not a Toshiba) that was having problems. This little beauty cost half as much and is a much better notebook. Technology marches on. While this notebook was ready to go right out of the box (in fact, some of the included software is very nice and easy to use – Toshiba Disc Creator, Ulead DVD Movie Factory, etc.), I took a few minutes to uninstall the bloatware and replaced the 2 X 512MB RAM with 2 X 1GB of RAM. FWIW, RAM replacement is easy to do, both sticks are readily accessable underneath a panel on the bottom – remove two screws and pry the panel up gently.
Now I have a very nice and fast notebook. Though I am making peace with Vista, I really would prefer to be using XP. Toshiba doesn’t support XP for the A135-S4677, a shame.
A pleasant surprise – the media card reader supports SDHC.
If you are considering this the A135-S4677, go ahead and buy. This is a very solid and functional notebook for the price.
I’m planning on buying the Acer One A110AB netbook but I don’t know if it would actually be any good for me? I really only want it for MSN every now and then. I’ve read a few reviews on it and everybody says the battery life is pathetic and it’s easier to buy a new battery so I was wondering how much a better battery would cost? (GBP) I’ve also noticed several people comment about MSN not downloading but I found a question on here that gave me an answer to solve this problem.
I’m a 13 year old girl so do you think this netbook would be suitable for me as it’s within my price range and I just want something for the internet?
My budget is £200

It looks okay for what you would be interested in but just make sure when you purchase it that it does come with Windows XP installed.
The ones I have seen all come with Linux operating system (which is an alternative to Windows XP). It definately would not be able to run Vista.
A new battery for this would cost you in the region of 50-70 GBP so it seems quite steep when compared to the cost of the actual Netbook.
If I were you I’d probably go with something different. What about an Asus Eeee-PC for example?
You might be able to get yourself a fairly basic laptop for around £300 GBP so it might even be worth looking at a Toshiba, slightly less portable than a netbook but far more functional IMHO.
i know its going to run me around 50/month
Just be careful, they all have bandwidth caps, usually around 5gig’s. So if you’re using it as a primary internet connection I’d suggest against it or it will end up costing you a fortune. Cricket has 50 bucks a month plan, Verizon has some plans around the same price. Verizon works pretty well for me, and I’m out in the middle of nowhere in the country.
If you need something really portable and inexpensive for your children (or yourself), check out our review of the Asus EeePC. BARGAIN!
