Author: Okay, here’s the deal – I travel a lot and housesit even more, and I need a laptop to take with me. It’s use will be primarily for typing a variety of things up – mostly notes – on Word. I don’t care if it’s refurbished, as long as it works and doesn’t have some kind of virus on it. It doesn’t even have to have Word – I have the software at home. It doesn’t have to have access to the internet, either. I do all of my web browsing and music and games on my desktop; I just need something to take with me when I travel. I type far faster than I write shorthand, so it’s a convenience thing.
When I say cheap, I’m talking under $200. I’m not picky about brands or anything like that. I have a flash drive and I know how to use it, so memory and RAM isn’t a real problem for me, either. Again, it only has to work and be capable of running Word.
To bad: she means a COMPUTER notebook.

Best buy has a really good deal on a particular laptop this year for black friday. I was thinking I’d just buy it online rather than wait out side from 3pm the day before until the store opens the next day like I did one year. But how many do they have available online usually, or do they even have the same black friday deals online? And is it harder to get an item online because there is a lot more people trying to buy the item and its first come first serve?
I know at the stores, if your one of the first 15 people in line, your almost guareenteed the item you want if its a big electronic because they hand out the tickets for the item(s) before you go in the store and they go in order from the front of the line to the back with the tickets and when they run out, thats it. And you can only get the big electronic items if you have the ticket. So there is no need to rush in and get into fights and stuff.
But im new to the buying online for black friday. Any tips?

First let me tell you what I had before…..

Definitely a gaming laptop. And now I switch to the Acer Timeline.

Now this is an “extreme” change for me. Going from Performance to Portability. Some people might think, what the f**k are you doing? You can’t play games anymore. NO GTA4, Grid, Crysis, Far Cry 2, NO NOTHING. But guess what? I’m not complaining. This “little” laptop is pretty awesome! Well It is a little underpowered but only if you try to look for it.
Of course I’m basing my experience with this “lappy” on Windows 7 RTM. It comes installed with vista and bloatware. So just make sure you get rid of that crap and you’ll be happy.
Here are my thoughts on performance….
Well actually, first let me tell you what programs I was able to run smoothly and define what “smooth” meant for each.
iTunes: Yes iTunes. And I think this is Apple’s fault. My P-6860FX was laggy with iTunes. Now running an underpowered laptop makes things better? It weirdly true.
Photoshop CS4: It’s not fast, but it is usable. I works for most of your photo editing needs.
Ummm. Actually that’s all I got to show off right now. I’ve only had it for a day or so.
Oh! lets talk about battery life!
As you know they never real last as long as the company says. Unless you dim it all the way down, no wireless, power saving mode, etc. But I was able to get about 6 and a half hours with Wifi on. So not to shabby.
Keyboard!!!!
It has a chicklet style keyboard. Very responsive, good spacing and a NUM pad!!!! How I love NUM pads!!! This keyboard is was very easy to get used to.
Touchpad:
It’s has multitouch capabilities. I love the pinch zoom for photos. Works pretty well. But at times it does get a little glitchy.
Speakers:
There small and not that loud. They don’t really give you a theatrical bass pounding feel. But they are very “accurate” sounding.
Design:
All you have to do is look at the picture. It’s very sleek and SEXY. I love takin’ this around with me. And with ease weighing around 5 pounds.
OVERALL:
This laptop is totally awesome!

jRin.net reviews the Gateway LT2005u (LT20 series) 10″ netbook (same as the LT2022u and LT2021u, or any other LT20 series netbook).
Basically, it’s on par with most other 10″ netbooks, and for the most part, it’s the same as the Acer Aspire One 10″ ( the gateway has longer battery life)
This was upgraded to 2gb ram and windows set for best performance
